“Ben Hur.”
The Public Hall was fairly full orff Sunday, night last, when Mr E. H. Buckingham gave an illustrat'd limelight des niptivp recital of Lew Wallace’s work “ Ben Hur,”—a tale of the Christ. To those who had previously read the book, and also to the yo ithful members of the audience, the story as related by Mr Buckingham proved very interesting The pictures! thrown on'the screen were very clear and distinct, and the listener could not fab to grasp the gist of teachit gs. Perhaps the meal effective pictures were {hose which showed the shepherds being guided by the star, and the chariot race in which Ben Hur d-feated Messela. During the evening, Mr Buckingham contributed the following vocal items: —“The Better Land,” “ The Star of Bethlehem,” “ Ora Pro Nobis,” “ Nazareth,” “ Calvary,” “ The Lost Chord.” Miss May Laing officiated in an able manner as piano accompanist.
