Lord Salisbury was champion horse of New Zealand for many years, both as a sire and in the show ring, never being beaten in Scotland or New Zealand. Richmond’s dam, Australian Maggie, was shown thirteen times on Australian show grounds and never was beaten, and her dam, Glasgow Maggie, was sold at McCullock’s sale in Melbourne for 840 guineas.
