Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 1905. BOROUGH BOUNDARIES.
The suggestion; inuck ! last evening by LR Gray to reduce the area of the borough of Foxton should commend itself to all. 11l the pfGCSss of time the jidpiilffticfir has increased id did iHfieiir fif&l; and various necessities, such as Water; drainage, and lighting; are to fofCe themselves upon public attention. Residents in the outer portions of the borough, however, have no prospect of sharing in the benefits accruing ifoill Such schemes, and may naturally be expected to oppose their consummation on the score of being, rated for that from which they will get no direct benefit. Therefore a reduction of area to one approxl* mating that of the old town district should materially bsnefit the interests of the residents in the more thickly settled parts. Another point not to be lost sight of is that the council’s funds would be relieved of the strain of maintaining several almost useless streets, and money so saved cpuld be applied to more useful purposes. The procedure to be followed in bringing about such a change presents no difficulties, and we trust that the suggestion will be carried out, feeling confident that it will tend to the material advantage of burgesses generally.
