A boiler exploded on the American gunboat Bennington in San Dieg ■ harbour. Over coo ware on board, and 45 bodies have alr-mdy been recovered. Most of the remainder were wounded. Hundreds ofspectators on the pier and in ferry boats saw many human bodies and wreckage shot into the, air and fall into'the water. A section of the npner deck of the gunboat was carried awav from stem to stern. The Bennington was beached in a sinking condition.
