The Festive Season.
A “ WHITE BALL.” Nothing could have been more appropriately timed than the " White Ball ” to which, on Tuesday evading* a large number of guests were invited by Mr and Mrs T. Haywood in the Masonic Hall. A glorious night outside, With the landscape Wrapped ill a glistening frosty white mantle, accorded so well with the scene inside the hall that the guests were forced to expressions of admiration in spite of themselves. Around the walls were arranged palms and evergreens, festooned with snowy lines sparking with frost powder which lent them added beauty, and in the corners of the hall were holly and other greeneries, all covered with imitation snow and icicles, the whole, scheme being most realistic and admirably worked out. The stage was arranged as a drawing l room, in which Mr and Mrs Haywood received the guests, A temporary supper-room had been laid out in a marquee adjoining the hall, in which a most dainty recherch£ supper had been set. and here again the decorations had been nicely arranged with roses and velvet leaves in harmony with those in the main hall. It is safe to say that a more enjoyable evening has not been spent in Foxton for many a long day, and to Mr and Mrs Haywood the guests owe a deep debt of gratitude for the pleasure given them on this occasion, which is the first white ball held here. The floor was in splendid order, and music by Mrs Walls was all that could be desired. Extras were played by Miss Haywood and were highly appreciated. His Worship the Mayor (Mr B. G. Gower) assisted by Mr Walter Carter, as the M’s.C., were most assiduous in their attention to visitors. The dancing of the Sir Roger de Coverley made a pretty ending, and the hearty singing of Auld Lang Syne evidenced the appreciation ot all for their host and hostess, who bowed acknowledgement. Miss Haywood and Miss Aitchison distributed programmes from a snowy white table in the hall, which had a charming effect.
