Owing to the buoyancy of the revenue the Dominion Parliament has ' approved the Government’s proposal to increase the salary of Sir Wilfred Laurier (the Premier) to £2400, and to give the leader of the Opposition /’I4OO. The salaries of members of the House of Commons and Senators are raised to £4OO. Provision is made fir ex-Ministers who have served five consecutive years as heads ot departments to receive pensions of £1250. The Imperial Government has agreed to modification of a new scheme of Indian army administration, which both Lord Kitchener and Lord Curzon have approved. The township of Tocumwai, on the Murray river, is still partially inundated, but the river is now receding.
