Federal Oriels.
MR REID DEPOSED.
CRITICISMS OF MR BEARIN'*
ACTION.
Immediately the division was taken on Friday night Mr Reid wired to Mr Northcbte, and asked, if convenient! could he be in Melbourne on Monday* Until his arrival nothing definite cat* be done.
Mr Deakin declined to say anything but Mr Raid, in an interview, said it would be the duty of the sooner or later, to shape the prepat course of the Nat ional destiny through the ballot-box. He considered a return to the three-party system would bt a national misfortune. He will remain loyal to the anti-Socialist flag, and was determined to fight to the end. Mr Watson declared that if Mr Deakin is called on to form a Ministry, he will receive the generous support ii the Labour Party. The “ Argus ” say* Mr Deakin ban gained a pyrrhic victory, which iia worse than a defeat. If he assume* office he will be controlled by Mf Watson, and everyone knows what thut moans. The three-party system will be more solidly established and more injurious than ever. The “ Sydney Morning Herald," ip dealing with the probability of a Deakin Cabinet, says he will have to do something and that something will be what the Labour Party approves. The conviction throughout the Commonwealth is that the Federal Parliament has/ outlived its usefulness. “ The thing jit stake is not the debased Premiership, but the hopes and aaibitions of the Federalists. Australia is too big a plaything for these pour creatures. We want to get a chance of clearing some of them out of tie way.”
the " Daily Telegraph ” says that Mr Deakin could only hold office as a bondslave of the Labour Party. The Brisbane Labour paper “ Worker,” warmly attacks Mr Deakin. He is true to nobody, and would bstray himself behind his own back if possible.. He betrayed the Labour Party and the Protectionist Party. Sufficient without an M, IX ? Are worry and paia not made doubts ; By thought of the consequent fee ?
