Opening of Parliament

THIS AFTERNOON

The third and last session of the fifteenth Parliament was formally opened this afternoon at *.30 by his Excellency the Governor, Lord Piunket. The Speech was on the lines generally indicated in recent utterances by the Premier when addressing the people at various centres.

Speaking to a “ Gisborne Times ” reporter of the coming session, the Premier said. “ From an Opposition barometer one would infer that the session is likely to be a stormy one; from the Left Wing that is to be enthusiastic. My own view is that it will be like the last sessions of other Parliaments ; a bit brisk at the start, and afterwards members will talk to their constituents. There will not bs much done, and the elections will take place in November next, if not sooner.”
