Borough Council.
SPECIAL MEeTIHCa The Borough Council met last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr B. G. Gower), Crs Coley, Gray, Nye, Shadbolt, Franklaud, Moore, Stiles, and Baker. GRAY STREET. The Council first held a special sitting when; oil the mdtidh Ot the Mayor; the special order made dn sth May last closing Gray street was cdilflrnrie'di Cr Coley, as an interested party, withdrew during the passing df the resolution. ORDINARY MEETING. Minutes of the last ordinary (May 8] two special meetings (May zg and June 5) were read and confirmed. BUILDING BYE-LAWS. A letter from Mr R. E. Gray asking permission to move and alter a building in Park street was read. The Town Clerk said that Mr Gray had not complied with the requirements of thd bye-law on the subject. It was decided on the motion of Crs Stiles and Gray, that Mr Gray be required to observe the building byelaw, or in the alternative that he be proceeded against. REFUND WANTED. Mrs C. H. Harris wrote requesting a refund of licence lee paid on the boardinghouse she had been keeping, as she had given up business. It was decided “that a bye law be framed dealing with boardinghouses in the borough.” —(Baker— Gray). POUND REPORT. The Poundkeeper reported that he had impounded six horses and 26 cattle. Driving tees collected amounted to 17s. Settlers had impounded 4 horses, 2 cows, and 1 sheep (since tiest roved).
overseer’s report. The Overseer (T. Cook) reported on work done during the month and made recommendations for the current month.—This was adopted, excepting a reference to a drain in Baker street. treasurer’s report. This was read as reported in another column. accounts. These were passed as scheduled. KATES. The usual formal resolution striking rates for the current year was carried, on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Coley, as follows: General rate is 3d in the £, and library rate id in the £, payable in one sum on the 14th prox. ASSISTANT ROADMAN. It was decided (Mayor—Cr Baker) to advertise for an assistant roadman, the Mayor pointing out that it was absolutely necessary to have assistance for the overseer. A PETITION. A petition presented by Cr Frankland, asking that a footpath be formed in Park street from Manchester House to Thynne stree.t was received. It was decided to put the pa'h in order as far as the Triad Hall, in order to allow people to attend worship, and to hold the balance over. The Council adjourned at 10.5 p.m.
