It has been figured out that the British Empire is sixteen times larger than all the French dominions and forty times greater than the German Empire. The Treasury has paid into the loan acc .mil. of the Borough Council a sum of T3OO, lining to per cent, addition! loan on ihe amount of the original loan raised For streets construction works.
A series of resolutions to he submit ted to the annual Municipal Conference was forwaided to the Borough Council last evening. No remit was sent on by that body. Miss Sy.inns last evening complained to (he Borough Council of a clump ot gorsu at the corner of Robins m and Duncan streets, which was unsightly and also might prove dangerous to fencing erected at the spot. Entries closed on Friday for the Palmerston winter show, commencing nn t'ue goth inst. There is a substantial increase on la-t year’s figures. One hundred and forty-one exhibits in dairy produce were entered, and 429 entries in roots, vegetables, and fruits, making a total of 570, against 461 last year. In the poultry section 1150 entries were recorded, as against 921 last year. All the space available for in ichinery is taken np. The Governor has consented to open the exhibition.
A sensation has been caused in Lin colm-hire agricultural centres by the introduction ol potatoes and tomatoes grown on the same plant from the same tuber. The introduction of tins novelty is due to Jr \V. Bell, of Mumby, near Lou'h. It is about five years since he commenced experimenting. Mr Bell sent a few tubers to a local auctioneer, and the prices realised were from as t' 3s each inhre. One gentleman who bought five tubers, was afterwaids offered 10s each by a seed merchant from Lincoln, but refused to sell.
