The River .
REPORTED TO BE'RISING STEADILY. The heavy rains experienced during the past few days up country have had the effect of causing a considerable rise in the ManawatU River, and to-day there is a largely increased depth and a strong run in the current. Word was received by the postal officials at 9 a.m. to T day from Woodville that heavy rain was still falling there, and that the river was very high and rising fast. In the Moutoa district the flood waters are beginning to make things unpleasant, and at Hamer’s flaxraill fibre that was bleaching on low-lying lands was in danger of being swept away. On the Shannon road, it was reported the water was rising rapidly, and it was questionable if vehicular traffic could be continued to-day. Wet weather seems to have been very prevalent during the past tew days, and from several centres reports come ol anticipated floods.
