,MR VILE BEFORE* HIS CONSTITUENTS. Mr Vile, M.H.R. for Manawatu, addressed his constituents-at the Public Ball Poxton, last evening, when there was an attendance of some 90 or 100 persons, including several ladies. The Mayor, Mr B. GoWer', presided, and briefly introduced the speaker. Mr Vile theri gave a general resume of the, situation of things political in this colony, as viewed ffo’m the standpoint of the Opposition Bo detailed his action in relation to UMfiy of the measures brought befere the house during the past two sessions, justifying the position he had taken up, and concluded by stating he would continue to do his utmost P° ?btam justice for this district aud the Colony generally in the matter of public expenditure remarking that at present the West Coast of the South Island, meaning especially Westland, received an undue proportion of consideration from the Government.
The member then replied to several questions in a manner which appeared to give satisfaction, and on the motion of Messrs S. H. Baker and 0. Spring, Was accorded 'a hearty vote of thanks for his address and confidence in him as representative.
Mr Vile was listened to attentively throughout, and occasionally his remarks evoked approving applause. At Shannon on Thursday evening Mr Vile addressed a large attendance of electors, and was well received. He states that he has been more cordially received on this visit round the district than on any previous occasion.
