Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, MAY 16, 1905. WATER.
The continued spell of dry weather experienced in Foxton should act ns a strong incentive to supporters of tlie proposal to go in for a water scheme for the town to hurry on with their labours. A daily recurring sight is that of householders wending their way to the Avenue Road windmill to obtain water for domestic needs, and- such a spectacle should not he possible in a town which desires to- possess something beyond a mere village reputation. The newly elected Borough Council, we fully believe, means to grapple earnestly with the question, but members should have the lively assistance of all burgesses so it!art though difficulties may assail them they will still persevere till the present reproach is removed frun the community. Another matte,r, small, but important, requiring attention is the hselesshess Of the pump provided at the triangle opposite the ■HVral'd office'. Only - to-day wo ob-* served people atop at the watering trough there to give thirst}' animals auk-ink, and they had perforce to go away as they came. This deficiency could be rectified for the' present l»v putting the pump in working ordciV and gould be carried out in a few' minutes by one of the borough workmen. jVince the above was written we .have been informed that the well ' is to be' put in order immediately. |
