It is reported that Mr Byron Brown intends to contest the Otaki seat, as an Independent Liberal. King George of Tonga, acting on medical advice, is staying in Auckland until the end of May. Dr Dutton, of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, succumbed during an expedition in the Congo, from tick fever. Mr John Stevens is at present visiting Foxton on business. He has considerably improved in health since the last occasion of bis being here, five or six weeks ago. A “ farewell ” social is to be tendered this evening at Oroua Bridge to Mr James McDonald, who is removing to another district for the benefit of Mrs McDonald’s health. The late Mr Frederick Gibson, shipowner, of Sunderland, whose estate has been valued at £743.596, began life as an office boy. Everything has been left to his family, and the will contains a request to his children that, should any of them die without issue, they should leave their share of the money to their brothers and sisters, and “so retain it in the family.” The estate duty exceeded £56,000. A very pretty wedding took place on Tuesday at the residence of the officiating clergyman, the Rev. Mr Duncan, the contracting parties being Miss Ada Bradcock, daughter of Mr H. Sradcock of this town, and Mr Robinson, also of Foxton. After the ceremony the bride and bridegoom ind guests adjourned to the residence )f Mrs Robinson, where the wedding >reakfast was served. The health of he bride and bridegroom was drunk vith the heartiest wishes for their ft’ ';rre welfare. A large number of preserlts, ncluding several cheques, were made 0 the bappy couple.
