Tariff Reform Question.
AN ANALYSIS. HOW VOTING IN COMMONS MAY GO. London, April xB. At a masting, last Friday, of membin of the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain read the following statement in reference to the leanings of members of the Unionist party on the question of fiscal reform: — There are a hundred and seventyone members of the party who have advocated Mr Chsmberlain’s policy. Seventy-one, including several Ministers, are favourable if the policy is adopted by the Government. Ninety-nine would be in favour of retaliation alone. These include some who are favourable to colonial preference, although unable to advocate a policy involving the rearrangement of fixation on articles of food. Twenty-seven Unionist* are opposed to any change in fiscal policy. Four members of the party, including Mr Balfour, are unclassified.
