The Queen of the South towed the disabled Defender up to the wharf on Sunday, the damage to the vessel’s bottom having been temporarily repaired under Captain Bendall’s direcnon. Yesterday the Queen attempted to tow the Defender out, en route for Wellington, hut the pilot could not let the Defender over the bar. It was expected the Pntiki would tow her out to-day and take her to Wellington. High Water at Manawatu Bar.

Letters containing coin, if posted unregistered, will he compulsorily registered and chargt d double registration fee. EASTER HOLIDAYS. Good Friday, the 2ist inst will be observed as a cio§e holiday. On Easter Monday, 24th the Office will "pen in all branches except money orders and saving bank from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m, Mails usually despatched on Friday will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday night, and mails usually despatched on Mondays will close on Sunday night at 8 p.m. No delivery by letter carrier will be made on Easter Monday, A.
