War in The East.
IN MANCHURIA. DISPOSITION OF THE RIVAL FORCES. London, April 7. General Linevitch, Commander of the Russian forces in Manchuria, reports that a Japanese column, which is approaching Vladivostock, was repulsed at Kilju, in North-eastern Korea. The St. Petersburg correspondent of " The Times ” reports that official ioformation has been received stating that four hundred and seventy thousand Japanese are advancing in crescent formation, with General Oku pn the left, Generals Nogi and Nodzu on the centre and Generals Kuroki and Rawamuria on the right. It is feared thai General Linevitch will be compelled to withdraw, under penalty of finding his positions turned. A RUSSIAN DEFEAT. London, April 7, The Russians were defeated at Chinchiatun, and retreated to Sumiencheng and along the Fenghua road. St. Petersburg, April 8. Saventy thousand reservists from Southern Russia have been ordered to Harping. Feverish preparations are being made to largely reinforce General Linevitch, in the hope that when Marshal Oyama is face to face with a Urge army Japan will hesitate to advance exaggerated terms of peace.
