The Kaiser paid a visit this week to Italy, and received an ovation at Naples. Mrs Harrison Lee has arrived in the colony to conduct another series of lectures in the temperance interest. Mr Arthur H. Adams, the well known New Zealand poet and author, is expected to return to the colony next month. Canon Lyttelton, headmaster of the Haileybury College, succeeds Dr Wane as headmaster of Eton, the latter having resigned. At the Thames yesterday the Hon. J. McGowan laid the foundation stone of the public library in the presence of a large number of spectators. Bro. Fox preaches at All Saints* Church to-morrow evening bafore leaving on a three months absence in Palmerston North hospital, whither ne proceeds to undergo an operation. Mr Callaghan, a visiting friend of the genial Brother, will sing a solo at the evening service.
King Edward and president Loubet, of France, were to meet on Thursday by mutual desire. M. Loubet was then to accompany his Majesty from Pierrefitte, a Parisan suqurb, to Caredelyon. Lord Salisbury accompanies King Edward as Minister in attendance.
