PANIC AT LAHORE. HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE AND PROPERTY. Calcutta, April 5. A violent earthquake was ex« penanced throughout the whole of Upper India. It was especially severe from Agra to Simla. A terrible panic was created at Lahore, where the people are now camping in the fields. >The towers of the Golden Mosque have fallen. Eleven shocks were felt altogether. Much damage was done at Simla, the Musscoree Hill Station being completely destroyed. , Many lives were lost. SENSATION AT ROTORUA, A NIGHT OF SEISMATIC EXCITEMENT. Rotorua, April 7. A severe earthquake was experienced at 8.20 last night, followed by others not quite so decided, ten in all occurring in an hour. At 9.25 a verysevere one occurred, followed immediately by another light one. The fourteenth an extra heavy one, took place at 9.30, which lasted for several seconds. There was another decided shock at 9.42, and six minutes later another. Shortly alter 10 o’clock two followed each other in quick succession, and during the night and early morning several were felt. At 4.35 the severest shock of all was felt. Many were accompanied by a rumbling noise. Altogether 23 distinct shocks oc» curred between 8-20 last night and 7 this morning.
