Flaxmillers' Association.

A largely attended meeting of flaxmill owners was held at the Royal Hotel, Palmerston North, on Thursday afternoon, Mr G. A, Simpson in the chair. The secretary, Mr 0. E. Austin, read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were confirmed. Mr H, Austin was granted leave, and the chairman was substituted to act at the meeting in his place.

Correspondence was read from the Minister of Agriculture, re the date of receiving the deputation from the Flaxmillers’ Conference, —10 a.m. on Friday 31st. As a result, Messrs G. A. Simpson, Seifert," O. Gardner, and the secretary were appointed to represent the Manawatu flaxmili owners. The deputation will wait on the Minister to-morrow next at the Chamber of Commerce, Wellington, and be introduced by Mr'Field, M.H.R. The following motions were put to the meeting and carried “That the general meeting* of the Association bo held the third Thursday in every three months, the first meeting to Be held in June. Any fivo millers to have power to call a special meeting after giving seven days notice in writing to the secretary.” “That the delegates from this Association meet the delegates trom the different millers’ associations in Wellington before the conference meets to arrange a common line of action in regard to grading.” “ That the millers present be invited to subscribe to an agreement to underwrite risks to one another in groups of not nore than ten under the Accident Insurance Act, such agreement to lie for signatures, and the proper legal document to be signed by those contributing.”

“That the letter of Dr O’Brien relating to mutual insurance be allowed to stand over, meanwhile the committee appointed to meet, and discuss Dr Brien’s proposals, and report to next meeting of the Association," “ That two bales of hemp of lowest points in each grade showing the points chosen by a committee appointed by the conference and paid for by the Government be graded and deposited at each of the ports of export in the colony and a similar two bales be forwarded to London as a sample and a guide for the graders, millers, and merchants." “ That the adjustment of points be left in the hands of delegates to act at their own descretion in any way remedying present discrepancies and anomalies.” "That the division of grading qualities be altered a* follows: Superior too to 95, fine 94 to 85, G.F.A.Q. 84 to 75, F.A.Q. 74 to 65, common 64 to 55, very interior 54 and under.” “ That it is necessary to have some distinctive mark, either different coloured brands or another mark, put on brand to show what grade, and a tag put inside.” “ That in the event of any miller feeling aggrived at the points awarded by graders, some fair system be instituted giving him the option of protest on depositing a sufficient sum to ensure good faith and that such protest be expediated upon by some independent expert appointed by the Government."
