Wellington and Manawatu Railway.
The gross earnings of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway, Ltd., for the year ending February 28th, 1905, were £127,732 17s, being £5550 greater than last year. Land was sold during the year to the value of £4319 9s 3d. At the annual meeting to be held on April 5 th, the directors will recommend a dividend of 4 per cent for the halfyear, making (with interim dividend paid in September last) 7 per cent for the year on the paid-up capital of the company. The actual traffic receipts for the year were £125,249 2s 3d. The total receipts amounted to 238 16s. The expenditure included :By traffic £43,139 14s nd, debenture interest £34,000, stores £24,000 is id, rolling stock and machinery £15,727 3s yd, dividend £11,894 *Bs rates and taxes £5839 6s nd, directors’ fees £2728 4s rod, land £9OB 178 lod, commission and discount £725 18s, London office charges £544 9s yd, auditors’ fees £2lO, refunds £183,153 nd, and interest £ll3 5s Bd, construction £2476 is rod. The liabilities show debentures £6Bo,ooo,'maintenance of line, insurance and contingencies £24,500. On the railway account the net profit for the year is shown at £10,389 7s 1, and on the land account a net profit of £5484 16s 4d. The assets include railway and rolling stock £1,010,197 J 9 S I® SS written-off £193,467 9s rod ; freehold lands £26,717 10s yd ; balances due by land purchases £51,584 izs ud. Deposits—New Zealand Government 4 per cent debentures £65,000, Bank of New Zealand £15,000, Equitable Building Society £9O, accrued interest £640. The cash balances held are— Wellington £4165 10s Bd, stations £45, London agents £536 7s, in transit to London £7OOO ; total, £11,746 17s Bd—N.Z. Times.
