ARCHAEOLOGICAL TREASURE. London, March xi. Mr N. de G. Davies, who is connected with exploration work in Egypt, has discovered between the sepulchres of Rameses IV. and Raineses XII. at El Amarna the tomb of Yua and Tua, parents of Qheen Teie. The tomb has not been disturbed since the eighteenth dynasty, and is still filled with royal treasures. The discovery is the most important ever made in Egypt. DOGGER BANK AFFAIR. London, March xi. There is keen dissatisfaction at Hull over the action of the Board of Trade reducing from £IOO,OOO to £65,000 the claims submitted in connection with the Dogger Bank affair. The owners ot the Gamecock fleet alone claimed £SB 000. Questions on the subject have been announced in Parliament. ARMENIAN HOPES. St. Petersburg, March 10. Count Rorguzoff Dashdoff has been appointed Viceroy of the Caucasus. The Armenians boast their hopefulness of reviving the kingdom of Armenia. Many Russian officials in the villages have been assassinated. The population is more hostile towards the Russians than towards the Mussulmans. Many Russians fear that it will soon be necessary to reconquer the Caucasus. MINOR MATTERS EPITOMISED. A fire is raging in the 1850 ft level of the Carhole mine at Long Gully, Victoria. A large quantity of old timber caught ablaze, and drove the miners out of the mine and the adjoining Unity mine. R. Arnst, of New Zealand, won his heat in the Sydney Thousand Cycle Handicap on Saturday. The semifinals will be ridden to-morrow. The Five mile Saratch Race was won by Ellegard, Lawson 2, McFarland 3, by a few inches, in xomin 40 q-sth sec—a world’s record.
