A'full report of the Shannon meeting will appear on Saturday. Purdy is in work again at Foxton. He seems to be quite sound, and if not hurried in his training, should win a few more races for his connections.
Tommy O’Brien, the Canterbury light-weight, who at one time acted as pilot to Lass-o’-Gowrie, had a big innings at the recent Westport gathering. " Bricky ” steered five winners. Amongst the nags was Blessbok, who won a treble.
Furneaux’s win at Dannevirke yesterday was well received in Foxton. The price he paid (£4 14s) came as a pleasant surprise to local punters, who will reap a fair sum over the victory of Alf. Wright’s chestnut. He should go on winning now that he in the " pink." Rather a unique performance was registered in connection with the V.R.C. meeting. The same owner has annexed the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup, the latter race with Lord Ullin’s Daughter, who also ran second to Piayaway in the Newmarket. Mr F. Foy must have swollen pockets after his dual victory.
