NOTES. By “ Cimvalkv." Foxton punters were all in on Ngatarua yesterday in the Welter, but the bis bay disappointed then. A Melbourne cable states that Blinker has been sold to Mr Wren for 1650 guineas, and Roller to Mr L. Kelly for 600 guineas. It it said that one Foxton sport who attended the Wanganui meeting had a good win off Purity when that nag beat Multifid on Thursday, and paid the handsome price of £9 13s. Charlie Jenkins was in hot water again at Wanganui yesterday, being severely cautioned lor foul riding in the Farewell Handicap. Surely New Zealand’s “star” horseman is not suffering from “ swelled head !" The Shannon meeting should be productive of good sport on Friday next, as all sorts and conditions of “ croks ” are in training. Foxton sends its quota, and between them, a win or two should be recorded. Shrapnel Shell has been a long time coming back to form, and no one will begrudge G. Smart his overdue win yesterday. The price he paid {£ll odd) must have proved a stumbling block to metallicians somewhere. Had Solution won the Flying at Wanganui, a large amount of foreign capital would have found its way into Foxton. As it was, investors receive 2:1 percent for their money on account of Tilley's charge being placed second. The local nags, Lady White and Fumr-aux, are training on satisfactorily, and should win a race between them at Dannevirkc next week. In all probabilitv, Lady White will go on to Napier Baric to contest the two-year-old events there.

It comes :is a bit or'a slrock to notice Martfilo's name. Tilley’s high-priced Hotchkiss colt, in the iist of nominations for- the Danuevirke Scurry. _ If he is started, doubtless liis breeding should make him a red hot favourite. We tender our condolences to the friends of the late Jimmy .McAloer, who met his untimely death through a fall in the Wanganui .Hurdles on Thursday. Young McAleer was widely respected, and iris death will prove a great loss to Alf. Attwood in whose employ the deceased horseman was for some considerable time. He was associated with all wins on Miss King, which mare was unfortunately the coarse of his demise. It was deceased who steered Killarncy to victory at the recent Foxton meeting.
