Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, FEB, 18, 1905. The Public Meeting
Poxton is at present experiencing a particularly dry season, and it Only has to continue a little while longer for the whole town to cry out for Water. The tanka are almost drained to their last dreg. How we would survive a drought such ha Australian experienced of late years ie best left to imagination. We would certainly famish under the existing order of things. Without doubt our most immediate want is a good water service, not only for household use; blit also for garden and fire-extinguishing purposes, The argument has been previously advanced that the never failing Manawatu river is close handy, and reasonable intellect must lead us to believe that this water can be piped to our very doors if only we prefer to spend the money on some suitable scheme. These Borough works cannot be carried out without the aid of special loans. Therefore, Foxtonians should turn up in large numbers to the Public Hall on Wednesday night and decide to put a loan for the water-scheme to the poll. If ratenayers have their own interests at heart, stich a loan Would be carried by an overwhelming majority. We suppose that many subjects will be dealt with regarding the Borongh—-notablv, the efficient lighting of the Borough, also the Borough Fire Brigade, and we sincerely hope that some good will result) from the gathering. Nevertheless, the most important work needed at present is a town water supply, and it is to be hoped rateyayera will realise the serious nature of the meeting, and roll mi and make themselves heard on Wednesday night next.
