JAPANESE EXPENDITURE,
General Karilbars has succeeded General Gripenberg ;n commana of Second Aiaiicmp-jan Army. The Japanese expenditure on the war in 1905 Amounted to fifty millions sterling. Viscount Hayashi, the Japanese Ambassador in London, on being interviewed, stated : “ x\ll my information is contrary to the prevalent peace reports. The proposals must emanate from Russia. No patching will be tolerated. The terms must assume a permanent peace and friendship.” The Hamburgh-American Company is selling Russia the Deutchland and the Hamburg for £700,000 and £400,000 respectively.
