FOXTON ROWING CLUB.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE MANAWATO HERALD,

Sib, —It has been with pleasure I have read your many articles of late relating to the management of the Poxton Rowing Club. Your argument re the membership fee, is, I have reason to believe, meeting with general approval, both with present members and intending members, — who undoubtedly would consent to he enrolled were the fee not made so prohivitive. The management has been so lax that I am convinced there are those who attended the annual mee ing of the Club-—and are considered still to be members—who have not the slightest idea of paying one guinea to become members of an institution which seems to be without life. There is a screw loose somewhere, and it appears to be wholly the fault of the Secretary and Committee. Were the affair pushed I feel silre a large membership would be recorded—that is provided the Committee preferred to meet the general wish of boating enthusiasts and had the fee reduced. Is the secretary in a lackadaisical mood ? It certainly appears so to me, otherwise a meeting would have been called and Club affairs gone into. Trusting this letter may ha the means of inciting the Secretary as to his duties, and thanking you for space.—l am, etc., A Boating Enthusiast.

[What We have advocated has been done with no other desire but for what we consider right Evidently the Rowing Club have a meagre knowledge df Biblical teachings, otherwise they would realise that “ The Lord helps those who help themselves,” and have acted on that proverb long ’ere this. It has come to our ears that half the present committed evince no desire to display enthusiasm in their own affairs. For Why ? We know not! We have suggested that the Secretary call his Committee together, but so far this has not been done. If that gentleman prefers to ignore us in the matter we can do no more to stimulate interest in the aquatic sport. We hope to record a change shortly.—Ed. M.H.]
