The Steele-Payne Bellringers.

The above company have lost none of their talented powers by thenr travels since last visiting Foxton. They re-appeared at the Public Hall last night to a big house and appreciative audience. It speaks volumes when every item is encored, and such was the case last night, and the compliments were well deserved. The company led off with some coon melody after which the Bellringers were heard to effect. Mr Ralph Steele showed he has lost none of his humour by hi* rendition of “ Isn’t that like a Man,” whilst the violin playing of Miss Maude Payne was a treat. Next Miss Lizzie Payne knocked a pleasing tune out oi sleigh bells, then more bellringing, ana *he sweet face and pleasant figure of Miss Lena Fisher was introduced to a Foxton audience. “ Pansy Faces ” was sung nicely by her. Tom Elston rendered “ Blue Bell ” in his best style, and an amusing quartette was vocally given, in costume, entitled “ A Sailor’s Life,” in whish Master Claude Steele was ably assisted by the Misses Steele and Fisher. Mandolins and banjos were next brought into use, and popular airs made the heart rejoice. Miss Maude Payne sang the descriptive song “ We all grow old in time,” and Mr Tom Elston recited “The Gee Bung Polo Club.” Japanese and Chinese trios (in costume) by the Misses Payne and Master Steele were deserving of applause. Mr Ralph Steele got a tune out of empty glasses, followed by “The Waiter,” a musical sketch showing the troubles of a waiter. Messrs Steele and Elston took the parts. Coon songs and cake walks by the company concluded a pleasant entertainment.
