The British Mission, which was exploring Western Thibet, has reached Simla (Northern India). It placed the. river Sutlej’s source greatly to the west of where it was hitherto supposed to be. Statistics show that 95,724 aliens landed in Britain during 1904 with a view to remaining. This is an increase of 13,124. Those in transit totalled 99,576, or a decrease of 25,000. • POLITICAL. PAMS, Jan. 11. Paul Nonmer, Deputy for Aisni, and ex-Governor of Indo-( hina, who is an opponent of M. Coombs (the Premier), has been elected Presideni of the Chamber by a majority of 25 over M. Brisson. M. Douraer’s victory is due to the votes of dissident Radicals, Nationalists and Royalists, and is attributed to the dissatisfaction regarding the army, the denunciation of the Concordat, and the income tax. HONOURED. President Loubet has conferred the Legion of Honour on Otto Nor denskjold for his Antarctic services. RUSSIAN DESERTERS. VIENNA, Jan. 11.
Twelve thousand Russian deserters ae at Lemberg. They are mostly d atitute Poles and Jews, and a col lection has been made to enabh them to proceed to America.
