Manawatu Herald. [Eatablished Aug.27,1878.] TUESDAY, JAN. 10, 1905. The Matter of Light.

It musk be a relief to ratepayers throughout the Borough of Foxton to learn that the town has been saved from total darkness, and fhat, contrary to the opinion expressed freely of late that lamp-lighters had boycotted the civic authorities, two tenders were received at last night’s meeting of the Council for the position. Even if it be only by a kerosene-wick glimmer, it is satisfactory to know that we are to have this mode of light. May the new contractor be found equal to the occasion, and may the friction between contractor and Council—which caused such a vast amount of unpleasantness during the 1904 term —be an unknown quantity.
