The Holidays.

We understand Foxton will present a vacant appearance trom to night until Wednesday morning, most of the business premises closing until that date for the Xmas holidays. Apart from the rifle match, a few pleasureboating parties, and an odd picnic or two, there will be little of interest taking place in Foxton itself on Monday next. Nevertheless there are trains by which , one can quit the town, and these will be taken advantage of, no doubt. The annual athletic and cycling meeting at Feilding always attracts a large crowd of Foxtonians, ard this year promises to be no exception to the rule. Amongst the competitors from these parts, Marshall and Dunn have capital chances of annexing some of the bicycle events, whilst the Furrie brothers are engaged in the running events. T. W. has very good marks, and, if in the same form as when he scored here in November, this young runner should not return empty-handed. We wish all Foxton competitors good fortune. PALMERSTON RACES. The Awapuni Races are sure to draw a big crowd of sports from this end, and as the different events have filled well, the racing should be firstclass. The following horses should run well at the first day of the meeting (Monday) Awapuni Stakes—Matuku or Solution. Handicap Hurdles—Miss King or Aroha. Manawatu Cup—Joe Chamberlain or Cannie Chiel. Hack Hurdles—Durban or Athol Maid! Maiden Hack— Trephine or Barca. Nursery Handicap Medallist or Chrysis. Hack Flat—St. Joe or Admiral Ceveras. Grand Stand—Douche or Full Cry, ASHURST MEETING. This popular meeting is to be held on Wednesday. Trains suit our quota ot radC-goefS, fields are good, and racing should be first-class, Visitors to Palmerston meeting will no doubt pick out a lot of winners after witnessing ‘dead meat’ at Awapuni. We should advise all to follow form throughout and their pockets may fill to overflowing.
