Shannon Notes.

Our Own Correspondent.) Although the weather has been M abominable during the Springs bur little township keeps progressing. Thb building trade has been very brisk of late. No less than seventy dwellings have been erected in Shaft’ l non and the immediate Vicinity within the past fifteen months. On the 7th inst.. Mr |. R. SldhSell, sen., auctioned a number of splendid building sites in and around the township. Bidding was fairly brisk and the sections sold well, but in our opinion prices were in favour of the buyers. Quite a number Of g'diliCs in the shape Of concerts and dances are to eventuate between now and Xmas. According to the almanac the weather should be far too warm for dancing, but the almanac must be all up-side-down, as we are getting a fine Sample of wintry weather. To-morrow (Friday) evening there is to be a concert and Cinderella dance for the benefit of Mrs Hawson and Child. A good programme will be provided, and as the object is a deserving one we hope to see a full house. The Rev. McNickle, who is leaving the district on account ol his wite’s ill health, is to be given a “ farewell ” in the shape of a concert and dance on the 21st inst. On the 23rd, the members of the Shannon Brass Band are holding a concert and dance in aid of Mr Burton (bandmaster) and Mr Anderson (one of its members) who were so severely burnt through the exploding of a tin of methylated spirits in the band room recently.
