OVER AN INFORMAL TENDER.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir, --Allow me through your valuable paper to say a few words about the informal tender—as the Council call it at their last meeting. I think, sir, they might have left the_ word informal out, as I explained in my tender that they had 50 per cent more than the deposit in their hands of mine, which I explained they could use should the tender he accepted. And apart from that, a friend present at the time put up the deposit which they would not accept. I think, sir, it would look much better if the Council had said straight out that they would give Mr H. Coley the carting whether he was the lowest tender or not, rather than call my tender informal, when it was the lowest, and I was entitled to the work. I think, sir, if the Council is so particular one way it should be particular the other way, and pay a man his wages when they have finished with him, and not keep him waiting a month or six weeks for his wages. Also, give him a chance to have a pound as a deposit. Hoping that I, am not trespassing too much on your valuable space. I am, etc., J. Andrew. [Business is business, Mr Andrew, and you were in error in failing to accompany your tender with the. necessary deposit. Do not trust entirely to providence in such matters, I otherwise you may be left again as you were on Monday night last.— Ed. M.H.J
