STOCK EXCHANGE RAID. NEW YORK, Dec. 10. T. W. Lawson, the well-known New York stockbroker, headed a “ bear ” raid on certain trusts, especially the Amalgamated Copper and United Steel Trusts, and there was will speculative excitement at Wall-street. A heavy slump in shares followed, but there has been a partial recovery. COTTON. The bankers in Texas are offering farmers facilities to hold back their cotton crops for a year if necessary. RUSSIAN RESIGNATIONS. LONDON, Dec. 9. Count Muravief, Minister for Justice, has tendered his resignation. The Grand Duke Sergius, Governor of Moscow, has also resigned, recognising the failure of their opposition to Prince Miraki’s policy. FORCING RELIGION. The Free Church forcibly seized the church at Strathpefier. DEFICIT ANTICIPATED. Lord Welby, formerly permanent secretary to the Treasury, predicts a deficit in the Imperial exchequer, in April, of between four and five millions. A PARISIAN SENSATION. PARIS, Dec. 10. Syveton’s death has caused a sensation. The Opposition newspapers allege that the Freemasons murdered him toprevent revelations. There are indications of suicide or a defective gas tap. DEFEATED WITHOIS. Trotha reports the defeat and flight of 204 Withois near Roemont; 8000 cattle and sheep and many waggons were captured. HONOURS. ST. PETERSBURG, Dec. 10. The Czar has presented Generals Sakharoff and Bilderling with golden swords and a set of brilliants inscribed “ For Valour.” POLITICAL REFORMS. The Czar is favourable to Prince Minki’s proposed chamber representing the provinces, which is to be purely consultative and not for initiating discussions, but to advise the Council of the Empire.
