JAPANESE GUNNERS HIT RUSSIAN SHIPS. Altbongh the Japanese gunners aft Port Arthur could only see the tops of the masts, they bit the Russian ships 180 times, and destroyed many junks used to provision Port Arthur. The Russians have abandoned their efforts to retake Metre Hill. Captain Clado, writing to the Novoe Vremya, says that the Baltic fleet has not a fighting chance against Admiral Togo. THE RUSSIAN FLEET. The Russian fleet is now coaling at Jibutil from their own colliers. They are also taking in supplies. The Russian war ships at Port Arthur have suffered severely. The Pereviet was for some time ablaze; the Retvisan’s stern is under water ; the Pobieda is badly damaged and listing ; while the Pallada has also been severely damaged.
