Accidents and Fatalities.
BLTHAM, Dec. 9. L fatal accident occurred on a boan track in the Whenuakura valley, thirty miles out from here. Two men had just finished clearing a papa slip when they were overtaken by a fresh one, which buried John Millar. He was dug out by his mate, who, had a miraculous escape. Millar sustained shocking injuries to one leg and was crushed internally. His mate had to go three miles through the bush for the nearest assistance. In the meantime, Millar, with a bushman's stoicism, lay smoking. He died six hours after the accieent and before the mafn road was reached. The deceased was 26 years of age. His relatives reside at Cobar, New South Wales. An inkuest will be held. HOKITIKA, Dec. 9. Patrick Hale, aged 25, whose parents are residing at Sydenham, was thrown ftom his bicycle on the Kanieri road yesserday, and died in the hospital early this morning from cencussion of the brain.
