Manawatu County Council.
The annual meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Wednesday at Sandon. Present— Ora Wilson, ■ Masters, Hammond, Kendall, P. Robinson, and H. Claris. An apology was received from Cr Clarke, who, in his letter, expressed a hope that Or Wilson would be elected to the position of Chairman. The only nomination received for the vacant office of rman was Cr Wilson, who was proposed by Cr Robinson and seconded by Cr Hammond. The latter considered Cr Wilson should be remunerated for his services, which were invaluable to the district. Crs Masters, Kendall, and Claris all spoke in eulogis’ic terms of the services rendered by Cr Wilson to the oCunty. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Horowhenua County Council, complaining of several alleged overcharges at the Shannon Perry.—lnvestigation showed charges were In order. Prom the Poxton Borough Council, requesting that the road to the beach be repaired.—Decided to fill in ruts on the road. Prom the Palmerston N. Hospital Board, applying for balance of levy due, £l9O Is Id. REPORTS, The treasurer reported the balance for the month as Under!—General account, dr, £8,574 7s 4d ; loan account, cr, £1,712 9s 4d; debit balance, £1,861 18s. Riding ac-counta.-«Sandon, dr, £143 lls 8d ; Mount Stewart, cr, £25 8s lid; Waitohi, dr, £3 16s 8d; Eongotea, dr.,. £B3 10s 4d; Carnarvon, or., £77 12s 6d; Kawa Kawa, dr, £BO 10s 6d; Awahon, or, £194 19s. The tramway manager reported the debit balance for the month was £ll 8s 7d, including an item of £B6 Is for repairs. Details were apnended of the renewals and repairs carried out on the line during the month. On the 22nd inst. the line was inspected by Mr Mclntosh (district engineer), Mr Stringleman (district traffic manager), Mr Ray (inspector of the permanent way), and the chairman. They Went over it from Pukenui to Himatangi, and the result of the inspection was very satisfactory, the district engineer stating the line was in much better order than when he last inspected it.
