* _ 0 FEILDING MERRY MAKERS. This talented company appeared again on Tuesday evening at the Public Hall before a meagre audience. The bill-of-fare presented was of the best, a particularly pleasing item being “ Queen of the Earth ” by Miss Belle Francis. This gifted contralto put plenty of life into her singing. She also shines in “cake walk.” That popular coon item “ Any Rags" was rendered to effect by J. Collins, whilst Carl Collier was equally at home with humorous comedian items. In fact, all the artists were worthy of better patronage from the Foxton public, and the small houses which greeted them can only be put down to being one of the misfortunes of life. Certainly they deserved better support. ROUNDERS. At the schoolground yesterday afternoon, the Old Girls were successful in a rounder competition with the present schoolgirls. The Old Girls succeeded by a good margin. After the game afternoon tea was enjoyed in the school. TENNIS. A large gathering of Tennis players attended the local courts yesterday afternoon, and weilded the' racquet with considerable aptitude. . It > is pleasing to notice the ladies indulging so freely in this particularly fascipat r . ing outdoor exercise. There was an unusually large number of the fair sex present yesterday, who succeeded in lending pleasure to the outing by providing afternoon tea. The pleasant weather conditions enticed the lady-? folk to adorn summer attire. “ EAST LYNNE.” Every person in Foxton has probablyread “East Lynne,” therefore it would be useless for us to go into detail on the matter. Probably there was never a book dramatised to such effect as the one referred to. Evidence of this fact is proved by, the countless millions who have witnessed the most emotional play in all parts of the world. To morrow night at the Public Hall, our readers will have an opportunity of witnessing for, them- - selves the dual-impersonation ot Lady Isabel and Madame Vine by Nita Steele, who is spoken of as being a first-class artist. “ Archibald Carlyle ” will be in the hands of Mr De Mannersley, whose acting is said to be superb. A particularly strong caste ot character artists are accompanying the Williams Dramatic Company, and a full house should be recorded. Popular prices are being charged, and seats are going off well, so booking should be done at once to avoid disappointment.
