Manawatu Herald. [Established Aug. 27, 1878.] SATURDAY, NOV. 19, 1904. One of Foxton’s Many Wants.

Foxton has many wants, but not the least of these is uniforms for the Borough Band. A town without a Brass Band nowadays is looked upon as being defunct by outsiders. Probably, never in the history o i

Foxton has there been such bright prospects ahead in band matters as there are at present. During the past few months, musicians of repute have been creeping into our midst, and, what with assiduous practise and the love of this world’s most inspiriting charm—music, we ace likely to be placed on a footing with the best of New Zealand country towns in this respect in a short space of time. With such an experienced and energetic conductor as Mr McKinnie, we shall not be surprised to see Foxton competing at the Peilding Contest next March. If such be the case, they shall have to be sent away fully equipped as regards dress. The Band are always willing to help any public object, and their loss of time and regard for the public convenience must extract the sympathy of their hearers. We understand uniforms are at present held, but not sufficient in nurabee to decorate the full complement of members now attached to this in etitution. Either add to the present number, or purchase a new stock altogether. This deserving musical institution must be fostered by the public, and we hope to see the secretary calling a meeting of citizens shortly to devise ways and means of fully equipping our Borough Band.
