Manawatu Herald. [Established Aug. 27, 1878.] SATURDAY, NOV. 6, 1904. The Manawatu Show.
Fortunately the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association were favoured with fine weather yesterday for the People’s Day of their Spring Show, and, as a consequence, the attendance was quite on a par with the best on record for Palmerston North’s Gala Day. We
have heard a lot of late of “ bad times,” but certainly a visit to the Palmerston Showgrounds yesterday would not have verified that idea. On every side smiling faces could be seen beaming forth from fashionable costumes, which at least pointed to the fact that the unruly elements of late have not in any way prevented the progress of the people. The Railway Department deserve a word of praise for the manner in which they met with the big demand made by the thousands who visited the “ Chicago of New Zealand.” So far we have not heard of any accident occurring, which speaks volumes for the railway servants. The Show itself was well up to its predecessors in exhibits, and so long as the Manawatu A. and P. Association keep an energetic Committee at the head of affairs, their enterprise must continue to be rewarded by public support.
