Dowie in Court.

San Francisco, September The deposition of John Alexander Ddwie has been filed in a suit brought by Hugh Craig for balance due on account of expenditure on Dowie’s behalf in 1888, when he came from Australia. In his deposition, Dowie says he docs not owe Craig a cent* He begins by staling that he is 57 years old; residence, Shiloh House, .Zion City, III.; occupation, minister of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. He says he brought a’ letter of introduction to Craig from Craig’s mother, who resided in Auckland, a member of Dowie’s Divine Healing Association. “ She spoke to me in-high terms of her son. Hugh Craig,” Dowie remarks, “ but he had wandered away from God and was practically an infidel. She begged me to see him, pr.ay for him, and help him back into the divine way.” After he had given “divine healing missions,” Dowie deposes, Craig insisted on taking the financial management'of meetings- “ He facetiously informed me I was an able preacher, but no financier. He continually spoke on this matter—morning, noon and night—and for the first and last time in my life I consented to put the financial management of my missions in the hands of some otie else.” Dowie often asserts that Craig took all the financial responsibility', and that he should hear whatever loss the meetings entailed.. Dowie states that Craig undertook the missions through gratitude, as Dowie had healed one of Craig's children, and also Mrs Craig. “ His daughter’s shoulder was injured by a fall,” the prophet deposed. “ When I laid hands on her in the name of the Lord Jesus, she was instantly healed. Mrs Craig had spinal trouble, also throat trouble, which'kept her from singing for ten years. I prayed with her, and she was healed. After that she sang morning, noon and night.”
