SPLENDID BRAVERY OF THE RUSSIANS. LONDON, October 15. ■Two days’ relentless fighting took place at Dwoorogya Hill, 12 miles south of Mukden. . The Japanese attempted a night surrender, and at first lost heavily. They then fired a large village, and the smoke screened their approach. The Tomsk Regiment suffered terriThe Volonski regiment splendidly defended Temple Mountain. After three .assaults they retired to The Russians generally displayed splendid bravery and endurance, and dragged guns up almost impossible hills. ■ . , The Japs rolled stones down one narrow defile, rendering it impossible to take the pass. The Japs troops then scaled the hillside, capturing it after a stubborn fight. On the 13th the Japs unexpectedly stormed a hill at night. Two batteries were surrounded, and all the gunners killed. The Novocherkask Regiment took away some of the guns, but was unable to retain them. The Japs allege that their losses, were much smaller than the Russians. OBSTINATE STRUGGLE. General Sakharoff reports that the Russian left wing, after a very obstinate struggle, occupied some rocky hills southward of Bentsiadutse, seven and a half miles north of Yentai. The arrival of Japanese reinforcements prevented the advantage gained being used with success, and General Kuropatkin ordered the force to rejoin the main body. The Russian guns on the left wing out-ranged General Kuroki’s, which were not used during the greater part of the fight. The mist enabled General Kuroki to advance successfully.
