TO THE EDITOR OF THE MAK.WVATC lIHIIALD,
Sin, —Being an interested party in in all football matters I decided to remain behind in Foxton on Saturday to witness the match between ihc (wo ren. teams, and I was very Sorry to Sec that the members of one ol (lie playing teams who were not playing were subjected to vile and obscene abuse from a certain gang of undesirables. This Sort ol tiling I was told was very common hero during your football season, and so land lias the conduct of footballers and barrackers become that many a respectable person objects to taking any part in (lie alleged sport, while 1 here is also a perceptible falling rtf hi the better class of spectators at these ball booting beanos. Your football season lias now practically dosed, but in the recess the various clubs should moot together and draw rules embodying drastic measures for dealing with hoodlums and undesirables who bring what was once a popular and healthy sport into disrepute. These sort of men who cannot act in a decent and gentlemanly manner while a football match is being played should not be tolerated, and I am sorry to have to admit that some of this year’s players were responsible for the conduct complained of. It would be a wise step if all the clubs did enquire into the characters of would-be members before enrolling them, and it is to be hoped the various clubs will take note of this fact.—l am, etc. Sportsman,
