Foxton Borough Council.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held prior to the meeting last night to make a Order dealing with Noxious Weeds and to consider and sign annual balance-sheet. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. A. Simpson), Crs G. Coley, J. F Overend, S. H. Baker, A. Spiers, J. Symons, and V. G. Gower. Apologies were received from Crs G. Stiles and H. Austin. Considerable discussion took place over the Noxious Weeds, and finally the following motion was carried, being proposed by Cr Gower, and seconded by Cr Baker, That this Council does now by Special Order declare the following are noxious weeds within the Borough—Broom, Gorse, Lupin and Ragwort. And that a special meeting to confirm this order be held on Monday, 14th Nov., at 7.30. The balance-sheet as read was approved and signed. ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting was held immediately afterwards. The minutes of the previous ordinary and ot the recent special meeting were read and confirmed. , , CORRESPOMDfcNCB. From Feilding Borough Coupfcil re the need of uniformity in the matterof Model Bye-Laws.— Resolved,,That the Clerk write to Feilding Borough'Gouncil thanking them for letter hut declining to take action in the matter. From Prouse Bros., Levin, re Foxton Building Bye-Laws.—Resolved, That permission be given to use sound heart of white pine for building purposes within the Borough outside of Mam street. From J. Doyle, lamplighter, asking for further remuneration owing to the increase in the consumption _of oil. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Coley, That the sura of 10s a month bd paid Mr Doyle for extra oil owing to the new lamps burning more oil, as from rst July. 1 . Other correspondence of a minor character was dealt with. : reports. The Pound-keeper reported that he had impounded 43 ana released iz head during the month. The Inspector of Nuisances reported the Borough to be in a clean and sanitary state. , .. The Overseer reported at length on the Borough works. The Treasurer’s report stated that the sum of £267 6s yd had been paid into the District Fund Account, and that the Bank balances were:—District Fund Account, £467 as; Street Loan Account, £336 ps 4<L—General Account, £273 149 sd; Library, £4° 13s yd; Reserves, £sl 13s 3 d > ceme * ter proios 4 ed 9 by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Symons, That the reports be adopted, with the exception rof the overseer’s report re horse and dray, and horse, saddle and bridle, ACCOUNTS. All accounts were passed for payment. general. The following motions were put and dealt with as follows Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Coley, That Mr Gray be informed that he must complete his contract before he receives the balance of his account for planting . Victoria Park.—Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That where soil is available the road men be instructed to cover all roads necessary to be done with two inches of soil. —Not earned. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the Library Committee be requested to meet at an early date to select 100 new books and general.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Overend, That the' Town Clerk write to the Postal Department asking it to erect at the Post Office two posts and rail, and hooks to tie up horses.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Coley, That the Clerk write to Mr Mitchell and see if he can lay off No. 2 and No. 6 lines, and draw plans and specifications.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That the Mauawatu County Council be requested to repair the road to the beach- as it is in a dangerous and bad state generally, and is unfit for the pleasure seekers who will be making use of it.—Carried. Proposed by 6r Spiers, seconded by Cr Baker, Thatienders be called for putting two inches of clay from Robinsons’ Pit on the following streets:— Coley, Duncan, Robinson, Baker, and Howan streets, the clay to be spread by the Council men.—Not carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Coley, That this Council meet at 8 o’clock during the summer months. —Not carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That Mr Ahern’s lease of Section No. 488 having expired, the Town Clerk be instructed to call for tenders for re-leasing same for a term of five years.—Carried. The motion, That the Building ByeLaws be rescinded, was negatived. NOTICE OF MOTION. Cr Coley proposed, and Cr Gower seconded, giving notice-to move, That the Council bring in a bye-law to enforce milk carts carrying anything under half-a-ton to have 3-inch tyres, and any carts carrying over that weight to have 4-inch tyres.
