Manawatu Herald. [Established Aug. 27, 1878.] TUESDAY, SEPT., 27, 1904. Foxton Football.

The management of Foxton football affairs during the 1904 season has proved to be such a bungle that if we are to be favoured with the popular sport in future seasons, our affairs will have to be placed under the thumb of good rule. At the present time, although there is an alleged controlling body, that body has not used what power it may have had to effect, otherwise such bickerings as has predominated throughout would never have been permitted. A few suggestions may be rightly

considered by the Foxton Rugby Union, ere they hold their final meeting of the year, so that, if acted upon, the football loving public of our town can look forward to witnessing at least good management. Whilst we stand aloof from the New Zealand Rugby Union, we can have no authority, so the only feasible course open is to affiliate with the governing body. This can be done either as a separate body, or as a sub-Union of the Manawatu Rugby Union. Of the two, the latter course seems to us the most presentable, as our players would then have the chance of being chosen to represent Manawatu in inter-provincial contests, and so rise immediately to “ big ” football. Yet another suggestion, and one which seems to us to beproduotive of most good, would be to consider the advisability of joining the Manawatu Rugby Union as Clubs individually, in which case that body would doubtless see fit to play the annual championship off in districts. It may be pointed out that such a system is in practice in Taranaki. Palmerston North teams could still fight for honours as at present, thus forming the Northern district, whilst Clubs in and around Foxton could form the Southern contingent. ' The champion team of each district could then play off the final. It would strengthen the parent body, and, besides, place the Foxton players under good control. We feel sure this suggestion will meet with the hearty support of all who wish to see football flourish in our midst, and it is to be hoped the Foxton Rugby Union will give these matters just consideration at the earliest opportunity.
