INFORMATION WANTED.

Sir, —Can you inform me as to whether the Town Clerk has power to engage a Ranger without the authority of the Council, or without gazetting same in the local paper. I am, &c., Ratepayer. [Section 83 of the Municipal Corporation Act 1900 provides that “ the Council may by resolution from time to time appoint, and may remove or reappoint, fit persons to be Town Clerk, Treasurer, Surveyor, Collectors and all such other officers and servants as it thinks necessary to assist in the execution of this act.” . . . • We are not aware of any other provision relating to the matter, either in the amending acts, the regulations, or the by-law. It would appear from this section that if a ranger is appointed it should be done by a formal resolution of the Council, and that there is no necessity either to advertise for applications, or to publish the appointment in the local or any other paper. -Ed. M.H.]
