NOTES.
Wanderers beat Otaki on Saturday last by 14 to 8, and won the Horowhenua Championship for the third year in succession. The Old Boys—Shannon return match will take place in about three weeks’ time. The following ylayers will represent Awahou in their match with Motuiti on Saturday : —Full-back, B. Shadbolt ; £, J. Coley, F. Robinson, W. Coley; five-eighth, J. Presling; half, J. Louisson; wing forwards, J. Joe, W. Robinson ; forwards, R. Jeffries, J. Jillitt, J. Lee, S. Wright, P. Brosnahan, B. Brown, F. Charles, Emergs.— Backs: Entwistle; forwards: A. Wright, F. Procter. An example has been made of a barracker who was brought before the Goulbourn Police Court on a charge of using insulting language to the referee at a football match. He, was fined £3, with £z 8s 8d costs, so-that he paid dearly for having a “ chip " at the referee, who has quite enough to put up with without being insulted by the barrackers. The law is all right, too, if only evidence can be obtained to sheet the charge home. Interested local barrackers should note this carefully. Ward, the ex-Southland ex-New South Wales representative, declines to take part in any of the future engagements of the Auckland provincial team because Wood and R. McGregor were preferred before him in the New Zealand team. Good player as Ward undoubtedly is, that the Auckland selector may not have thought as greatly of his prowess as he himself does is a matter of regret for Ward personally, but methinks, with the feelings he has of his own ability, a place on the bank is the proper place for him. Perhaps a glass case for him, with a halo round his head, would suit the much-tra-velled five-eighth. —Free Lance.
