KIWI v. MOTUITL The inclement weather on Saturday did not to any extent prevent interested spectators from walking out to the racecourse to witness the Union football matches. Kiwi and Motuiti were the first to take the field. Kiwi winning the toss decided to play with the wind at their backs. Though represented by a very weak team they had Motuiti on the defensive for the greater part of the spell, but were unable to cross Motuili’s line, and the first'spell ended with no score for either side. The greater part of the second spell saw play shifting all over the field. Near the end of the game Kiwi managed to get a very determined rush, and the ball getting into P. Robinson’s possession he potted a pretty goal. No further score was made by either side, and thus Kiwi won by 4 points to nil. Mr J. Frew acted as referee. AWAHOU v. HUIA. This match was another hard fought contest. Huia won the toss and took advantage of the wind. Soon after the commencement Awahou had Huia on the defensive, but splendid kicking by the Huia backs gradually turned the position of affairs, and after some scrums close to the Awahou line Huia scored. No goal resulted. Neither side was particularly dangerous during the remainder of the spell. On resuming after half time Awahou made things lively, and on several occasions were very near scoring; once in particular a try looked certain but an Awahou back failing to pass spoilt their best opportunity. Had they scored the game would have ended in a draw. Huia won by 3 points to nil. Mr W. Kiriona had charge of the whistle. MEETING OF DELEGATES. A meeting of delegates from the local football clubs was held at Mr Haywood’s Hotel on Saturday evening at 8 o’clock. Mr Shad bolt was voted to the chair. The Huia’s appeal against Newth (Kiwi) being eligible to play was struck out, it being proved that he had been a resident of the district for the specified time. The appeal of the Kiwi team at having to re-play a match with Huia, was disallowed. P. Broad was transferred to the Kiwi club. It was proposed that Mr Kiriona’ referee the Kiwi-Huia match, and Mr Frew the Awahou-Motuiti match, to be played next Saturday. A vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr Haywood for use of the room, concluded the meeting. NOTES.
