An Amusing Incident.

Of the numerous amusing mci-' dents reported in connection with the big football match at New Plymouth recently, the following deserves pride of place, the >Eltham Argus thinks. A popular joker, who is alleged to bear sovaMm resemblance to Bush, the English half-back, on his arrival at New Plymouth on the evening before the match, betook himself to a- wellknown hostelry. Arrayed in the British team’s colours he presented himself at the crowded bar, where

he contrived, by inuendo; to convey the intelligence that be was a “ Britisher out for the night That

was all that was required ; the sports thus honoured, claimed him at once as their own, and plied the

counterfeit “ Bush ” with “ English ” until the licensee applied the closure at ten o’clock. Later on he was taken -for a nocturnal ramble around the sights of New Plymouth, where he viewed from a shoulder* high perch, the “ boys ” vieing with each other for the additional honour of carrying him. The climax was reached on Wednesday morning, when a charming barmaid presented him with a set of “ Remember me ” silver-backed hair -brushes in exchange for his rosette, arid promises of devotion. Altogether the joker considers he had the, champion time of his life, but is puzzled as to hia future movements, which include a business visit tjb New Plymouth that he would willirfgly cry off until the British team is forgotten, -
