j was a very large attendance j at the social entertainment held in the I Primitive Methodist Church on Thursday evening. Mr G. Simpsori Jlifosiaiug. An excellent programme was provided, consisting of musical selections, songs and recitations. The j performers acquitted themselves vety ’ creditably, and judging from the hearty applause and encores given, the audience keenly appreciated theif efforts, Special mention might be made Of the violin duet rendered by’ the Misses Symons, which was enthusiastically received, and gained a well- ; merited encore. At the close of the I entertainment refreshments were par- , taken of. The Foxtou Brass Band I rendered some excellent selections in 1 front of the Church prior to the commencement. Rev. W. Harris, in pro- ' posing a hearty vote (if thanks to the ! performers and the Band for their services, expressed his pleasure at the i large attendance and the appreciation the various items received. Mr Harris took advantage of the occasion to thank the people for their generous gift of a range and grate for the Manse. In referring to the social to' be given next month by the ladies, Mr Harris extended a hearty invitation to I the bachelors to be present. The foli lowing programme was rendered : , Overture, Miss Fnrrie ; song, Mr Osborne ; recitation, Miss Violet Nyc; violin duet, Misses SyinOnS (encored); song. Mr Bullard ; pianoforte selection, Mr Olen; song, Mrs Hunter; song, Mrs Howarth; pianoforte selection, Mrs F. Walls’'(encored); duet, Miss F. Simpson and Mr E. Osborne ; recitation, Rev. W. Harris; song, Mr Keys (encored); song, Miss F. Simpson; recitation, Mr G. Simpson. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Howarth, Mrs Symons, and Misses Fnrrie and Withers.'
